In most instances, your sentencing consultant will attend the sentencing hearing. The only exceptions are when a scheduling conflict exists (particularly when the decision to have an Alternative Sentencing Report completed is made at the last minute or when sentencing has been re-scheduled) or if it is a justice court case.
Having the person who prepared the presentence report available in court to address any questions or issues raised by the judge adds to the credibility of the report. It also alleviates potential problems when discrepancies arise and may negate the need to continue sentencing when those discrepancies cannot be resolved in open court.
Most importantly, it demonstrates Utah Sentencing Alternatives commitment and willingness to stand behind our services and beside you at sentencing.
