Utah Sentencing Alternatives promotes accountability and transparency in the criminal justice system by providing information, education, and related services for justice-involved individuals, their families, and justice professionals. As a result, decisions are better informed by accurate and reliable information; government resources are used more efficiently; justice-individuals are involved and engaged in the decision-making process; and public safety is increased.
Custody Assessment Report
The Custody Assessment Report is completed at the request of defense counsel as a pretrial release or bail reduction strategy. This service identifies individual risk and protective factors that are present and strategies that are available to control or reduce that risk pending adjudication of the criminal charges.
Plea Assessment Report
The Plea Assessment Report is completed at the request of defense counsel, the prosecutor, or the defendant. This service identifies individual risk and protective factors that are present and the likely outcome of conviction. When a plea offer has been extended, the Plea Assessment Report identifies the likely outcome of offered plea and the outcome as charged. In addition, The Plea Assessment Report identifies individual circumstances that could be used to aggravate or mitigate imposition of the sentence.
The Sentencing Report is completed at the request of defense counsel, the prosecutor, the court, or the defendant. This service includes a comprehensive evaluation of all pertinent information related to the conduct that resulted in criminal charges, individual circumstances associated with identified risk and protective factors, and outcome recommendations.
This service is offered to justice-involved individuals who have been convicted and are preparing to meet with probation for the presentence interview. It is an opportunity to become better informed about the process and significance of the interview.
Other services include custom solutions that are tailored to individual circumstances or the needs of family members, crime victims, or others that have been impacted by the unlawful actions of another.
